CRAFT ROOM (HALF WAY DONE) REVEAL

As you all know, I have been working on this room little by little for months now.
It has not been a quick project by any means and the reason for that is, that except for the chairs
and the wall shelf, we have built everything.

We also painted walls and removed the carpet which it got replaced by hardwood floors.
We have done all the work ourselves, so you understand, we are not as young as we used to be. :)

The craft room is about 75% done, but I figured if I don't share with you all now, I would probably end up with a post with about three hundred pictures and I don't think you would appreciate that.
Even as it is, this is going to be a looong post. LOL
I apologize for that in advanced!

I will do updates as I finish it, but for now, here is what it looks like so far.

As you already know, some of the first things I did in this room were to update a thrift shop lamp, made a valance for the window and, just recently, redid and old stool to go with the colors in the room.

Back then, I also painted an old cabinet we had and now I am using it to store all my craft paper and supplies.

Not long after that, my husband built the top shelves and also added some lighting.
I got busy decorating them while he was working on building the cabinets.

I am very proud to say I did not buy anything new to decorate the shelves.
Everything you see I either made myself or repainted an item I already had.

I used another old shelf we had on the other side of the room, next to my sewing area to store my leftover fabric.
I covered some boxes I had with brown paper and used them to store my silk flowers by color.

And on top I added my radio and a small lamp for a little extra light.
I also made a burlap flower to make the simple lamp a little happier.
On the counter, I organized my threat, set up my sewing machine and placed one of my old cross stitchs
that I made a lifetime ago on a new frame.
Well, a girl needs a little music while working and something pretty to look at. :)

On the other side of the room, I organized my painting and office supplies.
At this point is when I decided to add a little teal color in the room and of course, pictures of my niece and nephew and my children.

I took the wonderful idea of hanging the scissors on a coffee mug stand from my friend Laurel.
She blogs at The North End Loft and yes, I did ask her for permission to "borrow" this idea. :)
Thank you, Laurel!

The pretty box was made by my daughter and now I am using it to store my glue sticks.

Another project we just finished was adding wheels to the other crate I had and using it to store my decor magazines.

And now I am working on the wall over the work area.
My husband hung me a wood tool box my son (the one in the Navy) made while he was still in school.
He took the front piece off and now I am going to add some mason jars to it for more storage.

I am also making a memo board for that wall and I am trying to finish decorating a glass bottle I painted teal.
I also need to label all my jars.  I hope to be done with it this week.

And I still have a whole other wall to finish!!!!
I think I have a plan! Well, maybe. :)

 This is all the "befores"

And after. I think we have come a long way!

Sooo, are you tired of looking at pictures already?
You are probably very glad this is over and I am exhausted! LOL
Thank you for your patience and for always taking the time to pay me a visit. It is almost Friday, so I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

See you soon!

I'd want to spend every single second of every single day here. I have to go get my Pinterest muscles warmed up now, because I'm pinning everything. You're amazing!

  5. Oh, it looks fabulous, Maria Elena! Your hubby did a great job on the drawer units, and I adore the little shelf up close to the ceiling. Those of us who have dedicated rooms are truly so lucky.

When I was sick, I had plenty of time to think up all kinds of projects -- not good! It has taken awhile to feel up to tackling any of them, but would you believe I did a rearrangement of my Momma Cave today. I'm not quite finished, but I guess I'll have to update my previous "Momma Cave" post. I truly have to stop looking at craft rooms on Pinterest -- it gets me in trouble every single time.

Well, I probably did more than I should have because I am really tired. Guess I'll go put my feet up and get ready for Grey's Anatomy! Have a wonderful weekend. Hope you get some time to play in your wonderful new room!

  58. Hello, would you mind sharing the dimensions of your counter top/desks? I love how you got three sitting work stations out of it. They look like they are compact but stills large enough to be functional and comfortable.

  60. Hi, Jackie, I would be happy to send you the dimensions, but your comment shows as a non-reply blogger so I can't email you back. Send me your email address and I will send you back all the information. Thank you, Maria

  61. May I ask the dimensions of the room you have used? I have a craft room, and search for ideas regularly, but my room is so awkward with two doors, a double doored closet and a double window and a single window! The room is about 12 x 10. So abouts you can see not much wall space, but I love how you have incorporated the window in your design. Has it changed much in the years since these pictures?

    1. My room is also small, actually the smallest of our home and about 12 x 10. I also had a double door closet which I turned into more storage space and added a work area to the center of the room. Those are all the changes I have made since then. You can see those changes here: http://mariaelenasdecor.blogspot.com/2015/05/more-work-space-to-craft-room.html

  62. Love it! You are doing such a great job. I unfortunately don't a dedicated craft/sewing room. I only have a two bedroom house and my grandson has lived with me on two separate occasions while attending the local junior college. He will be leaving in May and my granddaughter has moved in so she too can go to school. That's okay -- as long as they get a good education. Anyway, I am in the process of turning my dining room/office into a dining room/office/craft-sewing room. I for years have used a credenza for a desk and was fortunate to find a very nice at a consignment store to use for my sewing machine. It will actually look like your sewing machine set-up. I am changing from a round table with four chairs to a rectangular table, which I was also fortunate enough to find at the same time as the credenza. It will have to serve as a dining/craft table, but adapting is the name of the game, right? My room is about 11 x 16, but has two single interior doors plus an exterior door, a china cabinet plus three six foot tall bookcases and the desk, so there's not a lot of room to add anything. I have two club-type chairs I painted green and will use those at the table, I think, plus two rolling office chairs with great back support for craft projects. The desk has its own chair. Sounds a little crowded already so we may have to lose the green chairs; we'll see. I've got this laid out in a floor plan so hopefully it will work! We'll see in the next few weeks. I would love to copy that display shelf around the top of your room if I can get someone to build it for me.

  63. I know this is an older post, however I would love to know what your wall color is in where you purchased the little paint box organizer. Well done on creating such a homey space.

    1. Hi Annie. The wall color is Kilim Beige by Sherwin-Williams. It is a beautiful color in person. The paint wooden organizer I bought at Michaels. It is part of their Ashland Collection of organizers. Hope this helps you. Take care.
